Claresholm Solar
Overview
The 132 MWac Claresholm Solar Project was Canada's largest solar facility when it was commissioned in 2021 and is located in the Municipal District of Willow Creek, Alberta. The project is owned by Capstone (51%) and Obton A/S (49%), one of Europe's largest investors in solar. In 2019, the project received regulatory approvals from the Alberta Utilities Commission and executed a 74 MWac power purchase agreement with TC Energy Corporation. Construction began in the spring of 2020 and the facility achieved commercial operation on April 15, 2021. Capstone is self-performing operations and maintenance of the facility.
