The 25-megawatt Goulais Wind Farm is on private land within the Townships of Pennefather and Aweres in the district of Algoma. The wind farm site includes 11 Siemens S113-2.3MW turbines and is located on the plateau between Highway 17 and the Prince II Wind Farm at distances of approximately 5 kilometres northwest of Heyden and 5 km south of Goulais River. The project has a 20-year Feed-in-Tariff (FIT) contract with the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) expiring in 2035.
Capstone Power Corporation indirectly owns a 51% interest in Chi-Wiikwedong LP, the owner of the Goulais Wind Facility, and
the remaining 49% ownership interest in Chi-Wiikwedong LP is held by a subsidiary of the Batchewana First Nation
of Ojibways.
The project has recently applied to the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) to change the project and alter the terms and conditions of the existing Renewable Energy Approval as follows:
- The Project is proposing to amend the REA to update the maximum rating of each turbine to 2.5 MW from 2.3 MW to allow for operational flexibility. If approved with this change, this facility will continue to have a total maximum name plate capacity of 25 MW. The project location, taking the proposed change into account, remains the same.
- Corporate Name Change. The name of the general partner of Chi-Wiikwedong LP is now Chi-Wiikwedong Holdings LP.
