Cardinal uses a highly reliable Siemens Westinghouse 501 D5 gas turbine to generate electricity, which is sold to the Ontario Electricity Financial Corporation under a power purchase agreement. The steam and compressed air generated by Cardinal is sold at contracted rates to an Ingredion Canada Incorporated (formerly Casco Inc.) facility, one of the largest corn refining facilities in Canada, located adjacent to the Cardinal plant. In 2012, Cardinal achieved a milestone for its Siemens gas turbine: 150,000 hours of operations. This accomplishment reflects the reliable design of the turbine as well as the positive effect of preventive maintenance.
